The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
