In the wake of significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally warm weather for the end of February.
All-Time High Heat
On Friday midday, the thermometer soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, according to the National Weather Service. This exceeds the old record for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established just last year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on NWS graphics for the region.
Safety Warnings
Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations featured:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This sudden spike in temperature follows closely after a intense winter storm that pummeled the state recently. That storm unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to mountainous regions, causing flash flood warnings for many residents.

Several cities that experienced ninety degrees included Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Additionally, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to see the high 80s.
In the coming days, central Los Angeles can expect readings in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures likely for the following week.
