Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
