Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
