A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
